Love a good whodunit? Join us on February 1 and solve some mysterious mysteries with seven middle grade authors, while learning a little bit about what makes up a good story.
Books will be for sale through Once Upon a Time Bookstore and time will be set aside for autographs. Snacks and drinks will be available (for a small cash donation) throughout the event.

About the books
Squid & Octopus, Friends for Always
From Dial
A loyal friend makes every day a happy one.
The four tales in this charming picture book show funny moments in the life of best friends Squid and Octopus. Yes, they argue sometimes (about things as silly as whether they should wear mittens or socks to keep their tentacles warm!), but they are always able to cheer each other up in glum times (such as when Squid wakes from the dream of being a superhero and feels disappointed to be plain old Squid again).
They are a very lucky duo. As the fortune cookie in the final story says, they will always have a true friend to count on.
Penguin & Pinecone
From Walker & Co.
One day, Penguin found a curious object.
When Penguin finds a lost pinecone one day, an unlikely friendship blooms. But Grandpa reminds Penguin that pinecones can’t live in the snow—they belong in the warm forest far away. Though he will miss his friend, Penguin returns Pinecone to his home, dreaming of the day they can reunite. And when he finally returns to the forest to check on his friend, Penguin discovers that love only grows over time—and so do little pinecones!
Prolific author/illustrator Salina Yoon’s spare text and bright, energetic illustrations bring to life this endearing story celebrating friendships lost and found, and overcoming the odds to be with the one you love.
