[Video Transcript] Mastering Design Thinking at MIT
Welcome to our course on Design Thinking. This course is comprised of 10 modules. In each module, I'll give you an online lecture which is supplemented by questions and exercises and some team assignments. The first module is about Design Thinking Skills. How do we put these skills together into a systematic innovation process? The second module focuses on the Identification of Customer Needs. How is it that we do Fieldwork, develop empathy and truly understand an opportunity in the eyes of a customer? The third module is about translating those customer needs into measurable Product Specifications, in engineering terms. In the fourth module, we'll discuss Applied Creativity, brainstorming, and, how we develop product concepts. Module five is about Prototyping. A number of the methods we use to model and approximate the product or service in ways that are really useful in bringing the process forward. The sixth module is about the Design of Services and customer experiences. How do we take the process that we know so well that works for products and apply it to services and other intangible things? Module seven is about Product Architecture. How do we think about modularity and integration and product variance in order to satisfy possibly many different market segments or uses of the product in the future? Module eight is about Financial Analysis and payback. How is it that we can estimate what is required to bring this to market and how will we get revenue for that which will pay back a return? Module nine is about Design for Environmental Sustainability. How do we estimate the environmental impact of the product or service and its supporting ecosystem and how do we minimize that impact?

The 10th and final module are about the Product Development Process itself. What are some of the variances, there're stage processes, spiral processes, agile processes, and methods such as scrum, and how do you choose the right one for your development project? Across these modules, you'll have an opportunity to work on a project with a team of other participants in the class. The project will relate to opportunities that you have submitted and chosen to work on. You'll get feedback on the development process throughout and toward the end of the course we'll have refined product concepts, you'll execute an analysis I call real win worth it to identify which of the great opportunities here. I look forward to your participation in this class [End of Video Transcript]
