Most of us think that we have to be ruthless and aggressive and only look out for ourselves to succeed.
But in his first book, published in 2013, Grant points to the unacknowledged fourth factor in success, after talent, hard work, and luck: Giving, or helping others.
Grant should know.
He is a former selfless Giver himself, who missed out on winning a major sports event because he coached his rivals too well.

But look at Grant now: he is winning big-time: he is considered one of the top management thinkers in the world.
In the book, Grant suggests that in an increasingly interconnected and interdependent world, helping others, and giving of yourself without expecting anything in return, is likely to help you reach the top faster.
Of course, there’s a disclaimer or two that applies here.
You have to give smartly.
Don’t burn out, don’t be afraid to ask for help if you’re feeling overwhelmed, And learn to set boundaries.
But there is little doubt in Grant’s mind that those who are giving in their interactions with others are more likely to be successful.
